SMCRPC.BackIn the aftermath of the U.S. Presidential election, it is hard to find the strength to adhere to our day-to-day work as  menstrual health advocates, champions, researchers, teachers, and etc. Some of us doubt that our work is relevant enough or urgent enough to matter in this historical moment.

But of course it is.

We are doing the deep tissue work that makes substantive change that endures.

I believe–with all my heart–that our intersecting projects of cultivating body literacy, situating health in social context and challenging stigma do contribute to a more just world for ALL bodies, for ALL people.

I have often said in moments of crisis, when the going gets tough, Send In The Feminists.

Send in the ones that see how privilege and oppression shape reality.

Send in the folks who imagine a more just world.

And send in the folks who are working—ON THE GROUND—to create a different world.

That’s us, Society for Menstrual Cycle Research. We join others who refuse silence, invisibility and hierarchy.

So we keep on teaching, researching, writing, editing, blogging, tweeting, and speaking. We keep doing it. We keep fighting for change.
