I just got my first shot last month, was nervous. I read all these comments and now I’m worried. I know of the side effects. I did my homework. I’m gonna see how this plays out til my next appt. I get little hints of pain from time to time. Supposed to get my period on the 5th of this month. Having got anything yet. I hope everything will be ok. I’ll let you know.

Hi, I went on Depo because my doctor advised it as the best option because I’m prone to migraines and have problems with Ibs. My dr explained that generally when you choose to stop using depo normal body function should return in about 6-12 weeks. First year and a half on depo was great, no problems at all. However after a year and a half I had a horrendously tender breasts (to the point I was in tears), I was very emotional and had a sudden desperate need to have a baby even though I knew it wasn’t the right time for us and I started having migraines again. I went (in October) to the dr who suggested I may have developed an intolerance to the depo so I decided to come off the depo. My next injection was due at the end of November which I cancelled. The doctor at this point indicated that fertility didn’t usually return until about 6 months after your last depo shot wears off so about 9 months from your last injection (a little longer than 6-12 weeks!!)
The next 8 months were nothing short of horrific. I continued to have horrendous breast pain, when I went back to my doctor about this he said it should pass within a month or so. After 3 months I was still experiencing breast pain, still had no sign of my period returning and was feeling very nauseous. Again the doctor said that it was just a side affect and would wear off. To follow this horrendous experience I then went through about a month of back to back migraines, really severe migraines worse than I had ever had before. I was so up and down that people in work were noticing my mood swings and I was finding myself teary at the strangest of things. The final straw for me was finding a lump in my breast, I was referred to the breast cancer screening unit where I was worrying about the worst outcomes… Only to have a doctor to explain to me that it was just very fibrous tissue which felt like a lump caused by the hormone changes from coming off depo provera and that was what was also causing my extreme breast pain. I couldn’t believe that coming off a form of contraception could have caused me so much pain and upset. 8 months later after some extremely painful periods I am starting to get back to a normal cycle but this experience has put me off contraception completely!

I discontinued the shot in September of last year and now my breast are very heavy and they hurt. I was told my body is trying to get back to normal and my breast were fibrocystic
I started depo shot 7-8weeks after giving birth to my son. I had lost all my baby weight and was at a happy 125lbs. Within 2-3weeks I gained around 10lbs. And into the 2nd month I hit 140 and have been steady 140-141lbs since. I am past due for the shot (would be the 2nd shot) but I did not go. I used to be 105lbs my whole life damn near. And now I’m 140! I’m 5’6 and some might say I’m healthy. Just work out and everything will be fine. I have been working out and trying to eat better but I’m still flabby. And my breasts hurt. Like so tender. The reason I chose the shot so I could breastfeed safely. And ever since I got on the shot all I think about is how fat I am. And I lost my sex drive completely. My boyfriend has to beg me for sex and I used to enjoy sex and want to have it. Now. I’d just rather not. Doesn’t bother me one bit. That’s not right. The nurses don’t tell u half the side effects and even if they mention a few things they don’t tell u the severity involved In so disappointed in myself for not doing more research and trusting the nurses who I spoke with about choices. I seriously don’t trust drs or nurses at all anymore. The reason I haven’t been on BC for over ten yrs was BC I tried the pill for a short time as a teen and the patch. Both made me crazy. And I swore I would never get on birth control again. And now I have two boys under 2 so I wasn’t trying to have any more kids right away and thought this method would be the best for me in my situation. But now after trying I will never use birth control again. NEVER AGAIN!!!! I truly hope and pray putting this shit in my body doesn’t ruin my body for life and I will have a chance to over come this unfortunate misguided mistake of not doing my research and to anyone out there considering the shot. Plz don’t do it. I see more people complaining about getting it then sayin they had no issues. The no issues people are little and about 2% of the users in my opinion.

Hello, I had the exact same problem for years with the heavy bleeding and believe it or not I’ve controlled it by drinking 3 cups of cinnamon tea made from cinnamon sticks. I take 1 tablespoon of black strap molasses in the morning and one at night. It really does work. Have a blessed day.

Honestly, if I’d have known how horrendous Depo Provera was, I would have never had the only two shots I had. Horrible mood swings from depression to hysterical crying and screaming rage. I was due my third shot on the 21st of February 2018 from what I can remember, and I have had one withdrawal bleed/period which came about two months after I was supposed to get my third shot. Experiencing horribly sensitive breasts/nipples and still mood swings. Wondering how many more months of this I have to endure. One thing is for sure, I will NOT be taking it ever again.

I have only had one shot of depo. I only went on it because my breasts hurt really bad and my periods were irregular but they didn’t cause me what im going through now after stopping the shot. I also have interstitial cystitis which I haven’t been able to calm down in 2 mo. Yesterday I had bladder installation for it. The night before last before I was to get the installation I went to bed in so much pain with excruciating cramps which I’ve never had like that. They even went down my upper legs and my lower back. I thought I was going to go to ER but didn’t because I didn’t feel like moving. I thought this was part of my interstitial cystitis which I’m realizing isn’t. I ended up getting my period the day after the installation which I already had 2 weeks prior. I still am having cramps pretty bad but not like the one night. This is so ridiculous. I’m in so much pain that I don’t need to be. Noone does. I hope this stops soon since I only had one shot of this crap.
