- Li’l Maxi (A.K.A. half of Toronto theater duo Pomme Is French for Apple) stars in “I Flow Heavy”, an entertaining new music video, west Indian style, about the inconveniences of menstruation — like cramps, expensive femcare, PMS, and having to pretend one isn’t menstruating. (Completely unrelated: If I could skate — and didn’t already have back problems — “Heavy Flo” would so be my roller derby name.)
- Libresse has a new ad for green-tea scented panty liners in Malaysia. Smell the confidence, ladies! It smells like green tea. That strange creature at the very end who gets smashed by packages of Libresse is meant to represent a durian, according to Copyranter — a local fruit that smells like “pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock.”
- At Feministe last week, Caperton published a hilarious guide to the breaking of hymens especially for romance novelists.
- Last Saturday in Canada’s National Post, Mireille Silcoff explained why fancy, decorated tampons are wholly unnecessary.
- We’ll have more to say about this later (because it’s AWE-SOME!), but here’s a link to re:Cycling friend Chella Quint’s recent TEDx talk, Adventures in Menstruating: Don’t Use Shame to Sell.
- Lucky Friday the 13th — because there’s a Period Party on Twitter! We’ll have more info in Chris’ post on Monday.
- It’s been ten years since the NIH released the results of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), and probably prevented 160,000 women from developing breast cancer. The National Women’s Health Network is collecting stories and photos.
- A very thoughtful essay from s.e. smith about bridging the gap between ending menstrual shame and overdoing essentialist menstrual pride: Moving Toward an Inclusive Menstruation Dialogue.
Love the credits on the L’il Maxi video.
