I think my calendar is broken. How can it be November already?!?
- Visualizing menstruation: Design student Bridgett Coremans has designed a pair of clocks that visualize the female reproductive cycle with the idea of “helping women reconnect to the natural rhythms of their bodies.”
- Estrogen may help women in recovering from injury more quickly than men, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins.
- The pink parade of be-ribboned consumer products for Pink-tober isn’t over until you’ve voted on the worst offenders.
So, if I read the second article correctly (I read the abstract), they found that women consistently do better than men following trauma, and that the raw (uncorrected) rates are essentially the same across age groups. When they put a bunch of covariates in, they find that women are more protected during the years of 13-65 than either under 13 or over 65. The average age at menopause is around 50, so I’m guessing they have data that are already summarized by these age ranges.
It seems like a stretch to conclude that this sex difference is due to hormones.
And another stretch to conclude it is estrogen. Particularly given the clinical trials that are looking at using progesterone to treat traumatic brain injury.
Chris, would like to write a post for re:Cycling, either in response to this research or about the clinical trials using progesterone?? Or a post about the relationship between the two areas??
