Our recommendations for Independence Day weekend (U.S.):
- We’re not the only ones who aren’t buying the hype over a blood test to predict menopause: Dr. Christian Jessen explains in the London Evening Standard that it’s just one little study, and Lyn at Current Mom explains why she wants to know.
- Ovulation enhances certain brain activity (via LunaDiva). (As PMSingJeanGrey says, Heaven help you all if this is true, as I’m already unstoppable.)
- Biologists tell BBC News how the ‘grandmother hypothesis’ explains menopause in humans and orcas.
- The Rhode Island Health Department is investigating the use of IUDs that were not approved for use in the U.S. (via Women’s Health News)
- Marianne Kirby, a.k.a. The Rotund, explains what fat acceptance is about: Your Body Is Fine.
Love love love that you linked to some fat acceptance 🙂
I actually think Jessen has it backwards in his last paragraph…I think this little study is representative of a political backlash against those women trying to get education and careers in Iran — they’re getting a good reminder that, if they truly have to pursue their own goals, their biological clock is ticking and they’d better get back to pursuing their real job: motherhood.
